Dextran Magnetite (DM)

Dextran magnetite (DM) is a generic name of hydrophilic colloidal solution of superparamagnetic iron oxide coated with various dextran derivative. DM can get various functionality by changing the structure of the coating material around magnetic iron oxide core.

Applied Example

[ MRI Contrast Media ]
DM is safer than the gadolinium-based contrast media which are generally used.
Now, DM is used for the drug substance of liver specific MRI-contrast media.

[ Tracer for sentinel lymph node biopsy ]
DM is safe in a human body compared with the radio isotope tracer which is generally used. DM is used already in abroad.

[ Trasor for Magnetic Particle Imaging ]
DM is used as a tracer indispensable to MPI where development is advanced as a new diagnostic imaging. The MPI is in the pre-clinical stage at present.

[ Hyperthermia ]
The remedy which makes cancer perish by heat is conducted in abroad. The feature is that there are few side effects. DM where the dosage is possible is effective for the human body as a fever element.

[ Drug Delivery System ]
At present, it is still a study stage. Because an instruction is possible from the outside the body by a magnet, it is expected as a DDS material .
